A gentle introduction to Black Holes and Quantum Gravity
Black holes are one of the oldest predictions of General Relativity. Their existence in our neighboring universe is confirmed by a growing body of observations. I will describe, in a non-technical way, what black holes are and how they describe the end result of gravitational collapse. We will also see how these systems take our theoretical understandingto its limits of validity. By analyzing their physical behavior through interactions with idealized exterior agents we will discover some hints about the new physics expected to arise from the combination of quantum mechanics and gravitation.
